Where's the best place to SpinĀ® near Boston?

 

Bill Katie 2_Spynergy_Portraits_184We get a lot of nice letters and testimonials that we put them on our website -- yes, we are proud of them.  But every once in a while we get one that really blows our minds (don't you love that phrase?).  A recent business traveler to Boston typed a simple phrase into Google:  "where's the best place to spin in Boston".   Technically, we are not in Boston, but we aint that far (12 miles from downtown).  Anyway, this guy found us after that search.   I won't transcribe the whole email, but here is an excerpt:

 

....I am a huge spinner (and cyclist).  I have traveled to Boston for years and taken a number of mediocre to average spin classes at health clubs recommended by my hotel.  One day, I had the time and drove out to Wellesley to check you out.  All I can say is pheonmenal studio, phenomenal experience, phenomenal teacher.  You guys have really figured it out  Love the studio and will be back for sure, thanks for making my business trips tolerable!....

 

Gosh we're blushing.  Actually for out of town guests the studio is a pretty cool thing.  We have an online reservation and schedule, we have a "pay-per-class" setup (so they don't have to join anything), and we're convenient to get to.  Forgive us for tooting our own horn.  Couldn't resist.

Benefits of cardio fitness and aerobic exercise / indoor cycling

 

Have you been procrastinating getting back into regular indoor cycling class since this summer?  C'mon........here are the accepted benefits of aerobic exercise:

 

  • Increases fat metabolism: The body prefers fat for fuel when exercising at aerobic heart rates (burning fat is good).

  • Strengthens your immune system: Research shows that by increasing "fighter" cells in the immune system, you may have better protection against diseases like cancer (not Riding in spin class in Wellesey MAto mention upcoming cold season).

  • More energy!: The more effective the heart is as a pump, the better it is at providing oxygen to the body. Better oxygenation translates to improved energy.

  • Lowered risk of heart disease: Aerobic exercise has been found to have positive effects on all controllable risk factors of heart disease, including blood pressure and total serum cholesterol.

  • Decreased tension and aid in sleeping: Exercise creates and improves balance in the body. Hormones are in better balance and tension is reduced, creating a better environment for rest.

  • Psychological benefits: It is well documented that 30 minutes of exercise per day improves mood and reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.

 

Sounds too good to be true doesn't it?  How can something like this be legal...and  fun?  Find the time at one of over 35 classes a week. Spynergy has been the home of outstanding spin classes in Wellesley since 2004.  Riders visit us from Newton, Natick, Needham, Weston, Dover and Boston Metro West.

Grateful Dead Spin Class - " I Know You Riders " flock to Spynergy

 

For the 9th time in 5 years, an eclectic assortment of local fans descended on Spynergy Wellesley to experience an indoor cycling workout powered by The Dead.  48 hours after a limited announcement (only previous Dead Spin participants were notified via email) the class was sold out with a full wait list.  While no one was spotted camping in front of Spynergy, there were a few forlorn looking folks holding up one finger earlier at morning classes.

 

Since the original Dead Spin Class in 2007, a broader range of audio and video material has become available so Bill presented an ecelectic mix of live show content ranging from 1969 to 1989.  Of Dead Picparticular note were video excerpts (China Cat and Bertha) from the recently released 1972, Veneta, Oregon outdoor show.  We did edit out a few of the racier parts, tho we probably didn't need to with this crowd. 

 

Had to grin as much of the room broke into ringing (some might say screaming) harmony at the final few chours' of "Goin Down the Road Feelin' Bad".  Most suprising covers?  Amazing version of Knockin' on Heaven's Door, and another of Second That Emotion.

 

As we have said before on numerous occasions...Yes, you can spin to the Grateful Dead.  And as Jerry Garcia once noted:  "The Dead are like black licorice....most people don't like it, but the people who do like it, really like it a lot".   We agree.

People often ask how is this ride different from The Spynergy Ride!  Its five minutes shorter but more seamless and therefore, can feel more intense!  The music selection is a HUGE factor in how we navigate a workout...This playlist features faster BPM songs, some longer instrumental pieces, remixes along with strong vocalists...The idea is to always be propelling your legs with the energy of the music.  Here’s a recent playlist from Renu’s Sunday Surge!

Spynergy strategies for surviving the "eating season"

 

squashHalloween marks the start of the traditional "eating" (or overeating) season.  The sugar-snacking from the halloween bowl leads directly into the Thanksgiving feasting week....followed closely by the Christmas, Hanukah and New Years calorie extravaganzas.  There are two ways we typically deal with this season ALL or NOTHING. 

 

Startegy A (ALL):  Total rules abandonment and submission to the urge for gluttony.  Short term gratification during the season is inevitably followed by a painful and desperate attempt to recoup in January.

 

Strategy B (NOTHING): Over-regulation and massive deprivation.  This is a stressfull and guilt-ridden approach that is almost always doomed doomed to failure

 

Hmmmmmm , how about a middle ground?  Enjoy the rich natural foods of the the season (in moderation). These include winter squash, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts, cranberries, turkey, legumes.  Also keep to a regular regimen of exercise ----- (preferably indoor cycling / spin classes but other things can suffice as well).   Make the commitment now, and schedule yourself to exercise.   Enjoy the holiday (eating) season with 3 watchwords:  moderation, moderation, moderation.
